Symi is one of the smaller holiday islands in the Dodecanese group lyingjust 9km off the Turkish coast. It’s about an hour by boat north of the major Greek holiday island of Rhodes.

Symi is known for its peace and tranquillity, as the beaches are in short supply and not very appealing. The quaint boat building and sponge diving industries once made it a favourite getawayfor the rich, but now it’s popular with all types of visitor.

Temperatures in summer can soar to 40°C+ in July and August, so take care.
